Vulgarism

In the study of language and literary style, a vulgarism is an expression or usage considered non-standard or characteristic of uneducated speech or writing. In colloquial or lexical English, "vulgarism" or "vulgarity" may be synonymous with profanity or obscenity, but a linguistic or literary vulgarism encompasses a broader category of perceived fault not confined to scatological or sexual offensiveness. These faults may include errors of pronunciation, misspellings, word malformations, and malapropisms. "Vulgarity" is generally used in the more restricted sense. In regular and mostly informal conversations, the presence of vulgarity, if any, are mostly for intensifying, exclaiming or scolding. In modern times, vulgarism continues to be frequently used by people. A research paper produced by Oxford University in 2005 shows that the age group of 10–20 years old speak more vulgarity than the rest of the world's population combined. The frequent and prevalent usage of vulgarity as a whole has led to a paradox, in which people use vulgarity so often that it becomes less and less offensive to people, according to The New York Times.

Examples of use of vulgarly
1. Whenever we held a meeting, hed vulgarly comment on my looks or my clothes.
2. Today, it is easy as pie to get the PM on Richard and Judy , or giggling vulgarly about his five–times–a–night, or snuggling up to rock stars.
3. Englands left–handed opening pair have fared much better and there might be more cause for a chorus of Blakes Jerusalem (so vulgarly called for from the whole nation by the sponsors before the game) if Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick can produce their third century partnership of the series this morning.
4. Abdullah Ahmed Al–Shehri and Mansoor Ahmed Muajeb, managers of a shopping mall, told Arab News that the vulgar display of lingerie is embarrassing. «If I was passing by with my family and saw something displayed vulgarly on a mannequin, we would all find the situation awkward and embarrassing,» said Al–Shehri. «Unfortunately, many shopkeepers believe women won’t buy lingerie if they don’t see them displayed interestingly,» said Muajeb. «We don’t support the actual idea and that’s why we have private lingerie stores which men are not allowed to enter unless they’re accompanying their wives,» Al–Shehri said, adding that the mall’s administration is considering banning the provocative display of lingerie.
